Volunteering Opportunities for Youth
Join CNHPS and Volunteer:
- In the Seniors Connect Café and Intergenerational Programs: serve refreshments, lead/participate in the in-person or virtual get togethers, help with organizational activities. Do you have a Kinesiology background? Lead in short chair exercise activities for older adults.
- On a One-on-One Basis following appropriate training:
- With an isolated older Adult: provide weekly friendly virtual chats or in-person visits. Help older adults find valuable local resources and social opportunities.
- With an older Adult on a serious illness journey: provide emotional and psychosocial support and as needed: supporting them at medical appointments and in navigating the health care system; exploring health care resources available to them; making brief action plans; and/or mentoring in the process of advance care planning for future health care decision.
- As a Peer Facilitator for Caregiver Support Groups: following appropriate training, facilitate group sessions or provide one-on-one support. (Must have had previous caregiver experience).
- As a ‘Neighbourhood Connector’ in your own neighbourhood: following appropriate training, help your older adult neighbours who may be struggling
- become connected with one another
- with small acts of kindness
- access health and community resources that would benefit them
- explore ways to help them re-connect with things that give them pleasure
- assisting them to find answers to questions that they may have.
- In the following general volunteering tasks:
- Fund-raising and grant writing.
- Marketing and Advertising.
- Assisting with event planning.
- Assisting with other practical volunteer activities.
What is required to become a CNHPS Volunteer?
- Complete a volunteer application form (This form will also grant you Compassionate Neighbourhood Health Partners Society membership)
- Complete a criminal record check (at no cost to the volunteer).
- Endorse the CNHPS Society Statement of Values, Beliefs and Code of Conduct.
- Complete the CNHPS Oath of Confidentiality.
- Complete the interview process.
- Take the required orientation and training sessions.
